Description
This aromatic white comes from the unique and lush Bio Bio region, the most southerly wine area of Chile. Unlike the desert-like conditions of the northerly Elqui Valley, Bio Bio is all about water. It translates as 'big, big' in the local tribe Mapuche's dialect, referring to the largest river of all.
Its cooler climate delivers a crisp, mineral freshness akin to France's Loire (home to those great Sauvignons of Sancerre) but also boasts that trademark fruit purity only Chile's endless sunshine makes possible. Plus, old vines deliver an extra intensity thanks to their lower yields. This crisp white takes its name from the many rivers that run their course across the region from the Andes to the coast.
Seven Rivers is a deliciously crisp and aromatic Sauvignon Blanc from the Emiliana cellar, the most important organic producer in Chile. It was founded in 1986 by the Guilisasti family. Now the second generation, Rafael Guilisasti, is in charge. Chief winemaker there is Cesar Morales, affectionately known as 'the bear'. He manages all the vineyard sites owned by the winery, in many prime regions across the country.
2007 was a cracking vintage in Chile "2007 … the quality is great - concentrated but elegant" says Wine Spectator". One of Chile's most acclaimed and medal-laden winemakers, Ignacio Recabarren, believes 2007 "will accomplish the highest scores in the history of Chilean wine".
