With demand for New World Pinot Noir soaring, prices routinely climb well above the £10 mark (far more if you head to Burgundy, the grape's traditional heartland). So to find such quality with this humble price tag is news in itself!

We looked to the heavens for this - 3,500 feet above sea level to the famed Andean vineyard of Los Ponchos in Mendoza, Argentina. Cool nights and plenty of sunshine, perfect for Pinot, are both on tap in this vinous paradise. Pinot also requires the deft touch of a virtuoso such as Federico Galdeano - currently a very happy man. One of his top releases has just been awarded a huge 93 points by Wine Spectator. Such success brings high demand - and tiny allocations.

Bright ruby, seductively aromatic, with abundant cherry, plum and red berry flavours rounded out by a kiss of toasty oak. Classic Pinot Noir charm allied to Argentina's trademark whack of pure, ripe fruit - delicious!
