Beyond the Label

Château Giscours stands as one of only 61 estates to receive the coveted status of Grand Cru Classé during Bordeaux’s legendary 1855 classification. It was honored as a “Third Growth” and, to this day, remains one of the most respected châteaux in the renowned Margaux appellation.

Founded in the 14th century, Château Giscours’ winemaking history dates to 1552, when Pierre de Lhomme, a wealthy Bordeaux merchant began planting vines. Since then, it has benefitted from the leadership of several visionary owners—most recently, the Albada Jelgersma family, who purchased the estate in 1995.

The 2010 release of Château Giscours’ flagship wine hails from one of Bordeaux’s best vintages of all time, which received a rare 99-point rating overall from Wine Spectator. Given the estate’s reputation for excellence and the incredible vintage, it should come as no surprise that Château Giscours 2010 is “a major achievement for Giscours and one of the best wines from this estate in years” (critic Ian D’Agata).

A classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the wine “has classic Margaux elegance and complexity as well as notable richness and depth. Offering notes of ripe black fruits, smoked earth, freshly sharpened pencils, and tobacco leaf,” writes Jeb Dunnuck. While drinking beautifully already, it will continue to develop complexity and age gracefully for decades.
