Stellenrust 54 Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2018

Stellenrust 54 Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2018
Chenin Blanc is South Africa’s flagship white, and this hugely acclaimed taste hails from a renowned family estate in premium Stellenbosch. Barrel fermentation imparts luscious vanilla and butterscotch notes to the vibrant, tropical-fruit flavors.

Beyond the Label

“Stellenrust in Stellenbosch does amazing things with Chenin Blanc,” writes Wine magazine.

That’s an understatement. And to prove it, we present you with Stellenrust 54 – fresh off a huge, 96-point gold medal AND trophy win at the 2019 International Wine & Spirit Competition. So say the judges:

“The use of oak is perfect here – just enough to elegantly support the fresh orchard and tropical fruit and quince. The palate is spicy and big, with a round and creamy mouthfeel and a rich layer of honey and melons. All in balance, with crisp and fresh acidity and a mineral touch on a long, lingering finish.”

The man behind all that perfection is renowned winemaker Tertius Boshoff, who crafted Stellenrust 54 with grapes from (natch) the estate’s 54-year-old Chenin vines. These gnarled heirlooms yield precious little fruit, but the grapes they do produce are seriously concentrated and deliver major flavor impact. Back at the estate, Tertius barrel fermented the wine for nine months, imparting a luscious, creamy texture, plus vanilla and butterscotch characters to the wine’s ripe pear and tropical fruit flavors.

Lovely as an aperitif, but will really come into its own with food. Take a cue from South African locals and serve it at a ‘braai’ (Afrikaans for barbecue) with grilled seafood, chicken thighs, or veggie kebabs.

This is a top-class, handcrafted gem from one of South Africa’s (if not the world’s) leading Chenin Blanc producers. You’ve simply got to taste it – order now.
