Il Vispo Toscana Rosso 2019
This pure, organically grown Sangiovese hails from a leading Tuscan estate and sports a 92-point score from James Suckling. The name means “light and lively;” fitting, as it practically spills over with cheek-pinching, red-cherry juiciness.

Wine Flavor Profile
Il Vispo is a medium-bodied red with aromas of bright red berries and cherries that introduce delicate violet/earthy notes and very subtle hints of spice box. The palate is crisp and light, with tangy, sour red cherry notes predominating; look also for a pleasant, “dusty earth” character on the

Beyond the Label

Sangiovese is Tuscany’s best-known grape, responsible for famous reds like Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino. La Magia, the leading estate behind this organically grown example, happen to be Brunello experts. But it’s their outstanding, humbly labeled Toscana release that caught the eye of our expert, Leo (and that of Italian wine authority James Suckling, who rates it 92 points).

Il vispo means “light and lively,” a moniker that’ll make perfect sense once you take that first sip, because—zing!—the wine spills over with cheek-pinching, red-cherry juiciness. This mouthwatering quality is a Sangiovese calling card and part of what makes these wines ideal for acidic tomato sauces on pastas and pizza.

But that’s just our take. Here’s what Suckling had to say: “Extremely floral with blackberry and plum aromas and hints of walnuts. Full-bodied with round, juicy tannins, dark fruit and slightly toasted oak.”

Be quick on the draw with your order. There’s only so much to go around, and since Tuscan reds are one of our most in-demand categories, competition will be fierce to get your hands on some.
