Beyond the Label

Amelior shows off the Merlot grape at its delicious best. Hailing from the ocean-cooled vineyards of Monterey County, the pristine grapes ripen long and slow to ensure lots of full, red-fruited flavor. After a gentle pressing, the wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks to let the pure flavors really shine.

Monterey County stands out from other nearby regions of California. Rainfall is low, but the underground Salinas River provides water to the vines. The sunnier areas also enjoy some of California’s longest-growing seasons. Grapes here have a longer ‘hang time’ on the vines, which helps develop more complex aromas and flavors, while cooling breezes from the Pacific Ocean at Monterey Bay seal in a lovely freshness.

Originally known for its role in the fine wines from Bordeaux, Merlot has since taken off and made the rest of the world its home as well. Napa was one of the first to adopt this variety and nearby Monterey County is displaying its talent at producing well-ripened reds, with characteristic plum fruit and silky texture. When left unoaked, it shows it off—in spades.

This beauty is brimming with juicy ripe plum, cherry and blackberry, plus a hint of herbs and supple, silky tannins on the finish. Easy-going and versatile—just as good on its own as it is with food. You could pair with a vegetarian tajine, pasta with pesto or with bolognese sauce, grilled meats and more.
