Beyond the Label

Châeau Rauzan-Ségla was classified in 1855 as a Second Cru Classé, and for 350+ years has been one of the most prestigious estates in Bordeaux’s famed Margaux region.

The château encompasses 66 hectares of vines, which on average are 30 years old. It lies in the heart of the Margaux appellation, and is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot vines. The terroir is a mixture of deep clay and gravel soils that provides excellent drainage for the vines. The vineyard is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

The mature 2014 vintage is now coming into its own with over a decade of aging. It’s a classic, barrel-aged blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot, with the balance a mix of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It is rated 95 points by both Wine Enthusiast and James Suckling, with many more 90+ point ratings from other top critics.

“This is a full-bodied wine, from one of the leading estates in Margaux. It is ripe with juicy blackberry and black-currant fruits. This fruit contrasts with the dark tannins and powerful structure. It is going to develop slowly and impressively to be ready to drink from 2025. *Cellar Selection*.” – Wine Enthusiast
