Beyond the Label

If you haven’t yet experienced the ‘Barolo of the East’—this is your rare opportunity to discover Refosco. Edizione Limitata is one of our most unique NDA wines (aka bottles whose sources we cannot reveal). This beautifully aged, mature, earthy red came our way through a stroke of good luck, but once it sells out, there’s no more to be had. Here's your chance to see how the Veneto’s reds can be a true rival to Piedmont’s famed Barolos.

Refosco is a niche, hyper-local Italian grape producing a wine that ages with pure grace. A local legend in the Friuli region, it’s known for its structure and longevity—but all that usually comes with a price, which is why you’ll rarely see it exported to the U.S.—until now. This pristinely aged, 10+ year old wine was a longtime passion project destined for sale in Europe, but the buyer fell through at the last minute. Having invested so much in crafting and aging the wine, its winemaker was suddenly left in a lurch. So, he quickly called our local expert, Leonardo, knowing that our customers appreciate authentic wines like this one.

Edizione Limitata is a blend of 70-30 blend of Refosco and Merlot from vineyards near Cividale del Friuli and Prepotto. The grapes were harvested late, allowing for deeply complex flavors to develop, and the wine was aged six years in oak barrels, followed by an additional 6 months in bottle before release.

Edizione Limitata is ruby red in color with glints of garnet. It offers intense aromas of black and red berries, plum and black pepper. The palate is full-bodied, earthy, savory and structured, with notes of red berries, cherry, truffle and spice. The judges at Gilbert & Gaillard awarded it a gold medal, calling it “rich and powerful on the palate, resolutely focused on its ripe fruit and subtle wood notes.”

This wine is a once-in-a-decade treat that cannot be repeated. Hurry for your share before it's gone.
