Beyond the Label

When it comes to France’s southern Rhône Valley, Châteauneuf-du-Pape reigns supreme—“a hedonistic and intellectual treat,” raves critic Robert Parker. If you’re ready for a taste of red-wine royalty, you’ve come to the right place.

Founded in 1924, Le Cellier des Princes is Châteauneuf’s only growers’ co-operative, known for its top-notch, single-estate wines. It’s led by the talented Thierry Ferlay, who has won more gold medals than any other winemaker in the Southern Rhône. For La Porte des Princes—which boasts a gold medal from Gilbert & Gaillard—Thierry selected premium parcels of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, all grown during the great 2020 vintage.

As Decanter writes, “the best wines combine terroir influence with freshness and elegance. What about La Porte des Princes? Well, Gilbert & Gaillard judges gave it this delicious tasting note: “Pleasant nose combining stone fruits, fine spices, licorice, touch of garrigue...Full-bodied, rich and structured.” It’ll be a tasty partner for roasted meats, hearty casseroles or firm, aged cheeses.

Thierry’s wines—especially his sought-after Châteauneuf releases—are always popular with our customers. First come, first served.
