Beyond the Label

Sauvignon Blanc is the grape that makes deliciously fresh, grassy aromatic whites, a style that has overtaken Pinot Grigio in popularity. It's best known wines are those from the Loire—Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé.

Now meet Stones & Bones from Portugal—not the usual home for Sauvignon. The grapes for this wine are grown in a landscape dotted with ancient boulders and dinosaur fossils, hence its name. Crafted by the talented winemaker, Diogo Sepúlveda, who trained in Pomerol, then in Barossa with heirloom Shiraz vines. Our customers likely know him from his ultra-popular Stones & Bones red, and now, he's now revealing his skill with crisp, dry whites too.

The 2020 is intense with aromas of freshly cut grass, balanced by a burst of lightly tropical notes—ripe passion fruit, grapefruit and mango—thanks to the sunny climate. Well chilled, it provides ideal refreshment—a star on its own, at a party or with salads, noodles or fresh seafood.

“More elegant than Marlborough, more fruity than a Sancerre. Zesty, herbaceous Sauvignon Blanc.”
