Étienne de Bailly Beaujolais-Villages 2020

Étienne de Bailly Beaujolais-Villages 2020
This classic Beaujolais-Villages comes from one of the most respected winemakers in the region, 14th-generation Dominique Piron, and 50-year-old vines in the prized Beaujeu district. Look for layers of red fruit, spice and that trademark silkiness.

Beyond the Label

“...the focused, snappy profile of well-crafted, traditional Beaujolais has now found favor among a new generation of wine lovers.”
– Wine Spectator

To sum up Beaujolais-Villages in a few words: It’s elegant, vibrant and (thanks to its trademark, juicy, red fruit characteristics) very food friendly. Finding a well-priced bottle from a small, quality-obsessed grower like Dominique Piron is a real treat.

Dominique Piron is a 14th-generation winemaker whose ancestor, Etienne Bailly, was born in the Cru village of Morgon in 1590. La Revue du Vin, France’s top wine magazine, calls Dominique “a perfectionist whose wines merit the interest of fans in search of ample Beaujolais.” His tireless efforts to make “wine with the greatest respect for tradition and origin” (Bettane & Desseauve) led his peers to vote him in as President of Inter Beaujolais, the region’s trade body, in July 2016.

And thanks to another fantastic harvest, now is the perfect time to taste Dominique’s craftsmanship. His Beaujolais-Villages (named in honor of Etienne) was made with Gamay grapes, grown on 50-year-old vines in Beaujeu, one of the appellation’s top spots, and sports layers of classic red currant and strawberry flavor, with Beaujolais’ trademark silky tannins.

Perfect for turkey, cheese plates, roasted pork and beyond. With limited cases imported and growing demand, you’ll have to hurry for your share.
