Flavor Profile
Black Saint Peter Zinfandel—ever heard of it? It’s a hugely popular bottle that red wine lovers (and critics) can’t seem to get enough of. Which is why we’re thrilled to bring you Black Saint Peter Zinfandel Reserve, its even richer, more luxurious edition. Aged six months in oak, it offers layer after layer of velvety black plum, black cherry, fig and baking spice notes.
It should come as no surprise that the wine hails from Lodi, California, “one of the top wine regions in the country,” where “winemakers have quietly started producing some of the state’s best wines," according to vinepair.com. The area is home to many of the state’s oldest Zinfandel vines, locally nicknamed “Black Saint Peters.”
These gnarled heirlooms yield precious little fruit, but the grapes they do produce are exceptionally concentrated and flavorful.
The specific vineyard from which this wine was sourced is certified under Lodi Rules—an official certification for sustainable winegrowing and winemaking—and sits within the Mokelumne River district, an area becoming increasingly known for wines with a soft and rich fruit qualities.
The resulting wine marks a serious step up from the original. Ultra-expressive with gentle tannins, it’s the kind of wine you’ll want to serve at a dinner party or other special occasion.
Black Saint Peter’s legion of fans will be racing to get this special Reserve in their glasses. Better hurry or you’ll miss it!
