Fazzoletto Barbera 2018
The Fazzoletto (red kerchief) was worn by Italian resistance fighters during WWII, and this rebellious (and highly rated) Barbera honors them. From the premium Piedmont region, it brims with extra-concentrated dark-berry flavors.
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.

But don't worry, you'll find plenty more handpicked wines here.

Beyond the Label

Northern Italy’s premium Piedmont region is home to legendary Barolo and Barbaresco. You might think that the region’s winemakers drink rivers of these expensive, long-lived reds at home—but actually, they more often turn to juicy, full-fruited (and great-value) Barbera. And this one’s particularly special…

The Fazzoletto (red kerchief) was worn by Italian resistance fighters during WWII and is now regarded throughout Italy as a symbol of freedom and rebellion. This eponymous wine honors that tradition…and has a rebellious streak of its own. Eschewing old-fashioned conventions, winemaker Carlo Manera left a portion of the perfectly ripe Barbera grapes on the vine for a month after the main harvest, then dried them for six weeks. This process turned each grape into a raisined knot of extra-concentrated flavor.

And Carlo’s rebellious spirit was rewarded with a 90-point score from critic Andreas Larsson, who gave it this delectable tasting note: “jammed cherry, plum, red berry, clove and allspice notes. The palate, however, remains dry with a fresh backbone, supple and rounded tannin, sweet fruit flavors with cherry jam, pepper and ginger and a rounded juicy finish.”

This delicious Barbera is ready to drink on its own, with Italian fare or any way you like—there are no rules! Secure your share and join the rebellion today.
