Beyond the Label

Famed for its freshness, minerality and ultimate finesse, Pinot Blanc is one of the top whites from Alto Adige, Italy. And Kellerei Aichholz is one of the best expressions we’ve tried. With vibrant orchard fruit flavors, floral undertones and a flinty backbone, it offers the perfect balance of complexity and easy-drinking approachability.

It comes to us from Cantina Aichholz, a cooperative winery founded in 1919. What started as a partnership between 24 growers now includes a whopping 300 members, whose combined vineyards stretch across almost 1,100 acres of various soils and altitudes between Trentino and South Tyrol.

Despite their various aspects, all the vines get about 302 days of sunshine per year. This means there isn’t just a lot of fruit for the cooperative to work with—but that the grapes can be grown in whichever area terroir best suits them.

This Pinot Blanc was sourced from the Salorno area and pergola-trained vines grown in sandy alluvial soils. The grapes were pressed gently, their juice was fermented in stainless steel and the resulting wine was aged on its lees.

Immediately inviting, it wafts subtle hints of white flowers, peach and apricot that pour into a mouthfilling palate of yellow apple and pear. Cool mineral nuances throughout make it an elegant pick to pair or sip all on its own.
