When it comes to purity of flavor, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is in a league of its own. It’s also one of our most popular white wines – and this refreshing beauty has a fantastic pedigree. Most notably, a previous release was rated points by top critic Sam Kim:
“This punchy Sauvignon is beautifully fragrant … the palate delivers lovely bright fruit flavor and juicy mouthfeel, together with vibrant fruit intensity, leading to a lingering mouthwatering finish. Classically expressed and highly enjoyable.”
Expect more of the same from the vibrant 2020 release. Named for the Mahau Sound (a gorgeous and remote area on the northern tip of the South Island), it was crafted at the acclaimed Wairau River Estate by Wine Marlborough Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Phil Rose.
Phil and his wife Chris are true wine pioneers in Marlborough, who fought for (and won) the right to legally plant vines here – along with iconic Cloudy Bay – back in the 1970s. So, it’s safe to say Phil knows where some of the best grapes are tucked away. And for this lip-smacking exclusive, he headed straight for Marlborough’s premium Rapaura subregion, where he had his pick of perfectly ripe, flavor-packed grapes.
If you’re quick (we have only so many cases to go around), you’re in for something “highly enjoyable” in the glass. Look for remarkably fresh aromas of juicy guava and fresh-cut grass, plus intensely ripe citrus- and tropical-fruit flavors. A fine match for goat cheese salads or seafood.
