International Chardonnay Day

Melissa, a member of the wine team, looks forward to Chardonnay Day with an acclaimed release from Sonoma’s Russian River Valley.

Mark your calendars now…National Chardonnay Day is coming! The special wine holiday falls annually on the Thursday before Memorial Day. That’s May 23rd this year…so now is the time to stock up for the festivities

Well worthy of a day of celebration, Chardonnay is the "Queen of White Wines." This noble grape first made a name for itself in the Burgundy region of France. Influenced by the unique combination of soil and climate, it has a distinct minerality and earthiness to it

These wines are celebrated for their elegance and complexity, striking a balance between fruitiness, acidity and (often) the subtle influence of long oak aging in barrels. White Burgundy has the potential to age gracefully, evolving in the bottle to reveal further layers of complexity over the years

But today, there’s great Chardonnay beyond Burgundy! This versatile grape is planted across the globe, from sunny Australia to the rolling hills and valleys of California. Each region brings its own twist to the grape, offering an array of flavors, including citrus and stone fruit to hints of toasty hazelnut and butteriness.

Whether you're a fan of Napa's rich, oaky styles or prefer crisp, fresh French classics like Chablis, there's a Chardonnay out there with your name on it

To celebrate Chardonnay Day, I will be uncorking Paterson Point, a delicious Chardonnay from Sonoma’s scenic Russian River Valley. Paterson Point is actually a real place! The secluded 1.8-acre spot is known mainly to locals and has a serene swimming beach, bird watching and picturesque hiking trails through ancient redwoods.

Echoing its namesake locale, this Chardonnay embodies that same crisp, refreshing essence. I personally love the luscious peach flavors. And it’s perfectly balanced with the hints of caramel and spice from oak aging.

Cheers to the Queen Of Whites! So, what style will you be enjoying this Chardonnay day? Let us know!

P.S. Looking for a delicious meal to make on Chardonnay Day? We’ve got you covered! We love it with salmon, pasta, a creamy mushroom sauce and more.
