Beyond the Label

This discovery embodies the lively spirit of Andalucia – the sizzling, sunny region of southern Spain. It’s the birthplace of Bambera (a Flamenco dance) and fine Sherry. It’s also home to ripe, hugely concentrated reds …

Bambera de Barbadillo dances off with awards year after year, including a gold from France’s prestigious Gilbert & Gaillard and a 90-point rating from critic James Suckling for this vintage. No surprise, given its provenance. It hails from Bodegas Barbadillo: family-owned since 1821, winner of Guía Peñin’s Winery of the Year title (2015), and producer of Sherry that wins 100 Parker points: “They are constantly innovating and experimenting.”

Hugely talented (and very much sought-after) winemaker Montse Molina blended her best Tempranillo, Merlot, and Shiraz with the deft flourish of a bailaor. Look for waves of dark berries and an ultra-smooth, fruity finish. It’s exactly the kind of ‘black red’ our customers go crazy for.
