Flavor Profile
Marlborough may be New Zealand’s most famous Sauvignon Blanc region, but these days, its neighbor Nelson is also turning heads with its world-class whites. Just wait until you taste this exhilarating Brightwater Sauvignon Blanc.
The pioneering Gary and Valley Neale have been helping to put Nelson on the fine wine map since 1999. “We are not a slice of Tuscany or Provence. We are Nelson, New Zealand, and proud of it,” says Gary. Their vineyards are located on an ancient river terrace not far from the village of Brightwater. Fast-draining soil and cool nights, combined with some of the highest sunshine hours anywhere in the country, provide the optimal growing conditions.
The grapes for this fine white were harvested in individual batches at different stages of ripeness, for an appealing balance of bright fruit flavors and lively acidity. That focus on quality paid off big-time with a 94-point, 5-star rating from critic Sam Kim. He writes:
“It’s pristine and fabulously aromatic on the nose showing cantaloupe, lime zest, Granny Smith apple and white floral aromas. The palate delivers excellent weight and fruit intensity wonderfully complemented by fine texture and juicy mouthfeel, offering terrific drinking.”
Word to the wise: After back-to-back fantastic (but super small) harvests in 2020 and 2021, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is in very short supply worldwide. So, if you want to enjoy this mouthwatering Sauvignon Blanc, act quickly to secure your share.
