The picturesque, medieval town of Saint-Émilion is where you’ll find some of the finest (and most expensive) Bordeaux. It marries satiny-smooth, plum-rich Merlot, with a dash of Cabernet for structure. The fruit was grown 35-year-old vines, which yielded grapes with concentrated flavors. One year in fine oak barrels completed the recipe, imparting toasty spice to the wine’s ripe plum and blackberry notes.
Feel free to enjoy this mature Bordeaux now—at over a decade old, it’s drinking beautifully. But if you want to save it for a special meal, it will cellar well for several more years, too.
