Flavor Profile
Paolo Masi is one of our favorite Italian winemakers and the third generation of his family to craft wine in Chianti. Collezione di Paolo Contrappasso is a truly Tuscan blend of Syrah and Sangiovese, with lush and velvety flavors of red and black fruit.
Since graduating top of his class at Florence’s wine university, Paolo “has made an excellent impression with the estate wines of his family property,” writes top critic Robert Parker. The sentiment was echoed by Italy’s top wine guide, Gambero Rosso which famously praised Paolo’s wines for their “irreproachably clean fruit and abundant personality.” And the maestro has done it again with this Super Tuscan.
Named Contrappasso (‘opposite’), the varieties in this blend couldn’t be more different. Sangiovese offers vibrant, tart red-fruit flavors, while Syrah brings lusher, richer berry notes. But when combined, as Paolo skillfully proves, they produce one truly remarkable wine.
A consistent award winner, it’s sure to please on its own, or with grilled meats or classic Italian fare.
