Rasteau’s recent elevation to Cru status has propelled the region “into the big leagues,” says Decanter. Hailing from the Martin family’s small estate and the Rhône’s superb 2019 vintage, this barrel-aged beauty brims with spicy berry charm.

Beyond the Label

Its recent elevation to cru status (alongside Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas) has “propelled Rasteau reds into the big leagues,” says Decanter. This tiny corner of France’s southern Rhône, perched on a small, south-facing hill, is home to full-flavored, Grenache-heavy reds—just wait until you taste this fine example. It sports 91 points from the Decanter World Wine Awards for its “good sense of authenticity...round and pleasing.”

Domaine Martin is a boutique, family-owned operation (since 1905!), now run by fifth-generation brothers David and Eric Martin. Their old vines yield only a small amount of grapes, but thanks to the exceptional 2019 vintage, the fruit they did produce ripened to perfection and created excellent wines. As Vinous.com reports, the 2019s “look extremely promising and show an uncanny blend of depth and vivacity.”

This is a classic Rhône blend of Grenache (65%), Syrah (25%), and Mourvèdre (15%). After eight months’ barrel aging, Domain Martin brims with spicy, dark-berry flavors and will delight alongside roasted meats, hearty stews, and more.

Few cases imported – first come, first served.
