From a renowned cellar founded in 1914 and talented winemaker Gonzalo Celayeta, this rare white Garnacha was crafted with grapes grown in high-altitude vineyards in Spain’s rugged Navarra. Look forward to ripe citrus and white flower notes.

Beyond the Label

The remote village of San Martín de Unx in Spain’s Navarra may be way off the beaten track for some, but not for our Spain expert. It’s where she stumbled across one of Spain’s priceless heirloom treasures—gnarled, old Garnacha Blanca vines.

Carefully tended by Gonzalo Celayeta of Bodegas San Martín (est. 1914), these low-yielding plants struggle to survive in the harsh, high-altitude foothills of the Pyrenees. The terrain is so rugged and difficult to navigate that each grape must be picked by hand; mechanical grape harvesters just won’t do. Combined with the low rainfall and intense sunshine of the 2023 growing season, the conditions translate to a painstakingly crafted wine that totally blew us away in the tasting room with its finesse and complexity.

Flor de San Martin has a well-deserved gold medal and 93-point score. Look forward to inviting aromas of white jasmine and honeysuckle blossom with green pear and apple notes and an intriguing minerality. The palate is medium bodied and lush, balanced by a zippy, citrus-peel/green fruit intensity that had us all eagerly anticipating that next sip. This wine is made for gently spiced fish tacos or citrus-marinated white meats. And, because it’s still pretty rare to see Garnacha Blanca bottled solo, it’ll make for a fun conversation piece at your next meal with friends.
