Il Poeta Barolo del Comune di Barolo 2020
Certain wines transcend the ordinary. They carry a sense of the soil, hands and heritage that went into every drop. Barolo is one such wine and this structural and layered, deeply fruited bottle from winemaker Paolo Sartirano will show you why.
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.

But don't worry, you'll find plenty more handpicked wines here.

Beyond the Label

The pride of Piedmont, Italy, Barolo is a wine that seems to transcend the ordinary. Each bottle carries a sense of the characters, environment and traditions that brought it to life, inspiring a cult-like following among wine lovers and connoisseurs worldwide. Il Poeta Barolo del Comune di Barolo is a brilliant example, with dark fruit, integrated tannins and the structure to stand the test of time.

Of course, Il Poeta isn’t just any Barolo.

While most come from the same 10 villages set within the larger Barolo region, this one hails from the celebrated hilltop village of Barolo itself (hence the “Barolo del Comune di Barolo” classification). It comes courtesy of legendary local grower—and nationally recognized poet—Natale Seghesio, who composes a new poem for every growing season and incorporates it into the wine label.

Working with Natale’s premium fruit, renowned winemaker Paolo Sartirano takes over in the cellar. His team sorts the grapes by hand to ensure only the best make the cut. And after careful fermentation, he ages the wine extensively: first, 18 months in Slavonian oak casks, then a further 20 months in bottle before release.

The result is complex yet ethereal, displaying ripe blackberry, currant and cherry flavors, supported by delicate spice and balsamic notes. Given its tannins and balanced acidity, it would surely age well for at least a decade. We recommend you decant before serving to fully unleash its aromas and flavors, then sip it alongside Piedmont’s classic black truffle risotto or with roasted red meats.

Stocks are extremely limited, so act soon if you’d like some.
