Beyond the Label

Inside Track Limited Release Chardonnay is nothing less than captivating, with detailed fruit and floral layers that unfold across a lengthy finish. It would cost more than $100 if sold by the Australian winery that produces it, but thanks to a little non-disclosure agreement (NDA) we’ve signed, we’re able to offer it for a fraction of the price.

The wine was crafted from premium grapes grown across Margaret River, a tiny-but-mighty subregion of Western Australia and one of the most isolated wine regions in the world.

Just over three hours south of Perth, the gravelly-loam area is hugged by both the Indian and Southern oceans, and edged by extensive, biologically diverse forests—ideal conditions for viticulture. (In fact, though less than 5% of Australia’s wine grapes are farmed in Western Australia, a significant proportion of the nation’s top wine is made in Margaret River.)

The family behind the bottling was a pioneer here, due in part to a famed Napa winemaker who saw their property’s vinous potential. Upon visiting in the early 1970s, he convinced them not only to convert what was then a cattle farm into a vineyard, but also to be the first in the area to plant Chardonnay.

Flash forward to today, and the estate has become a go-to for wine connoisseurs worldwide, specializing in the great white grape and Cab Sauvignon, with a laundry list of accolades from top critics and prestigious wine publications, alike.

So how in the heck did we end up with a cut of their stuff? Well, that’s all thanks to Ben Cohn, our local expert, who goes way back with their senior winemaker. He let it slip that they'd have a bit of extra juice from the extraordinary 2024 vintage that he didn’t want to go to waste. We could have it, he said… so long as we promised to keep their identity on the downlow. Ben didn’t hesitate.

An exquisite example of Margaret River Chardonnay, the wine is rich and textural, with pretty-yet-complex stone fruit, lemon zest and lemon curd flavors that open through the mid-palate with vibrant natural acidity. Already delicious, it will also age well for up to three years.
