Paolo Valle Pinot Grigio 2018

Paolo Valle Pinot Grigio 2018
“The Colli Orientali hills are home to some of Friuli’s most prestigious vineyards” (Wine-Searcher). And the renowned Paolo Valle’s Pinot Grigio – bursting with zippy citrus and apple – is about as good as it gets. Order now to taste for yourself.

Wine Details

Beyond the Label

Pinot Grigio is one of the world’s most popular whites. The freshest, most elegant examples come from the grape’s spiritual home, the Friuli region of northeastern Italy – and the hills of Colli Orientali hold some of Friuli’s best vineyards. From the renowned Valle estate and the talented Paolo Valle, this discovery is a must-try for any fan of classic Italian Pinot Grigio (or other crisp, invigorating whites).

In his hilly vineyards near the centuries-old Rosazzo Abbey, Paolo uses higher-density vine training than most of his neighbors (a vineyard technique that pushes grapes to develop extra flavor intensity). To play up the mountain freshness naturally imparted to the wine by the Alpine terrain, Paolo cool-fermented it in stainless steel tanks – a practice pioneered by the Valle estate in the region decades ago.

Expect world-class quality in the glass, including that level of complexity that you only get in the very best Italian Pinot Grigios. Enjoy delicate aromas of pear and peach, with a hint of almond. More orchard fruit unfolds on the palate, framed by well-balanced acidity and a crisp, refreshing texture. This bona-fide crowd pleaser (and stylish aperitif) will be outstanding with seafood: lightly grilled shellfish, sushi and sashimi, or a bowl of traditional northern Italian seafood risotto.

It’s so good, we call it “the Santa Margherita beater” – but you’ll be the judge of that. At today’s price, it’s certainly a much better value.
