Beyond the Label

Angelo Maci’s ‘Gold Selection’ Pillastro has quite the awards pedigree, including a gold medal from the 2021 American Wine Awards for this latest release.

Especially if you love RICH, bold reds, you’re in for a serious treat—one sip and you’ll understand why Angelo’s been named Southern Italian Winemaker of the Year three times at Vinitaly. Handcrafted with chocolatey, old-vine Primitivo grapes sourced from Angelo’s very best sites in Puglia, then given a splash of deep, dark Negroamaro, the wine was barrel aged for extra smoothness and complexity. (Fun fact: Angelo’s 45-year-old vines are so low yielding, it takes the fruit from an entire plant to make just a single bottle of Selezione d’Oro!)

This rich, sun-baked treat comes into its own with hearty and rustic Italian fare. Serve at your next big family dinner—it’s a guaranteed hit. Word to the wise: just like Angelo’s regular Pillastro, his Selezione d’Oro has a big following—so hurry to guarantee your share.
