One of California’s newest appellations (officially recognized in 1982), Chalone has a winemaking history that dates back to the early 20th century and is home to some of the oldest vines in the county. Located along the Galiban Mountain range, it benefits from intense sunshine (a key ripening factor) as well as high altitudes and cooling breezes from the nearby Monterey Bay, which allow grapes to retain freshness.
