Schroeder Estate Patagonia Malbec Reserve 2018

Schroeder Estate Patagonia Malbec Reserve 2018
The Schroeders brave Antarctic winds in the remote Patagonia region to produce Malbec with incredibly fresh, concentrated flavors. Taste for yourself with their luxurious, barrel-aged Reserve. Rippling with chocolatey plum flavor and ideal for steak.

Wine Details

Flavor Profile

Wine Flavor Profile
Schroeder Estate Malbec Reserve is a full-bodied red with ripe plum and black cherry aromas, plus hints of violet and spice. On the palate, fresh, black-fruit flavors introduce a chocolatey, roasted-coffee character. Velvety tannins and a long, satisfying finish.
Wine Food Pairings
Aged cheese, duck, game birds, venison, pork, vegetarian.
Beyond the Label

Argentina’s Schroeder family have been braving the extreme elements in Patagonia since 1927. “Something about the area seems to create wines that deliver pure, beautifully delineated fruit to your palate with the roll-off-the-fingertip ease of a layup by a basketball pro,” says Wine Spectator’s Matt Kramer. And if past vintages are anything to go by, the Schroeders’ Reserve is an absolute slam-dunk.

Master of Wine Tim Atkin rated a previous release 90 points and gave it this impressive tasting note: “Serious, well structured, and full of perfume and flavour, this deftly oaked Malbec has smooth, fine-grained tannins, lots of sweet blackberry and blueberry fruit, and appealing texture.”

The equally delicious 2018 Reserve showcases hand-selected grapes from some of the best spots in the family’s best vineyards. Back in their state-of-the-art winery, winemaker Leonardo Puppato deftly aged a portion of the wine in fine French and American oak barrels for a year, giving just the right balance of smooth spice to the intense fruit flavors. (It’s no surprise that The Wine Advocate has praised the Schroeders for making wines “master sommeliers should love.”)

Ripe plum and black cherry aromas are infused with subtle violet and spice. The palate is tailor-made for a meaty steak, with its firm but velvety tannins, remarkably fresh black-fruit notes, and chocolatey, roasted-coffee finish.

With so many Malbec fans chomping at the bit to get their fix, our advice is to get in on this Reserve ASAP.
