Beyond the Label

“Oh my goodness, it’s a stunner!”

When top critic (and Pinot Noir aficionado) Matthew Jukes tasted the Schroeder family’s Patagonia Pinot Noir a few vintages back, he did a double-take. A wine of this caliber for under $20 a bottle? Almost too good to be true—but it’s not. And just wait until you taste their acclaimed 2020 release. It arrives with a 90-point gold medal from Gilbert & Gaillard and 91 points from top critic James Suckling: “Cherry, currant and raspberry notes on the nose with some hibiscus undertones…fruity and juicy…very drinkable.”

The Schroeder family have been braving the elements in Argentina’s deep south since 1927, regularly winning critical acclaim for wines “that master sommeliers should love” (The Wine Advocate). The key to the their decades of success (aside from genuine skill and dedication to quality): the Patagonian climate. This remote region is home to some of the world’s southernmost vineyards, where icy Antarctic breezes and intense sunlight conspire to produce tiny, thick-skinned Pinot grapes—and wines that are richer and riper than their French counterparts.

Look forward to red berry fruit, edged with warm oak and coffee. Try chilling very lightly in your fridge for 15-20 minutes—this helps to brighten up the flavors and gives the wine a really refreshing character. Then serve with duck, pork or cedar-plank salmon.

The Schroeder family’s Pinot Noir is made in very small quantities. Order today to ensure your share.
