The region’s official board (sticklers for quality) named 2016 an ‘exceptional’ vintage with ‘superb’ results for quality and quantity. But since strict regulations limit the amount of wine each bodega can sell, this premier estate had an excess of Tempranillo from their best vineyards in Rioja Alta. Usually, it would be blended into their top-tier Crianza, which, in the past, has earned a 90+ and Best Buy rating from the country’s revered Peñin wine guide.
