Flavor Profile
Rocky, rugged Navarra is often overshadowed by its popular neighbor, Rioja. But its wines can be just as wonderful—if you know where to look. Seleccion Numerada 50 is a perfect example. Closer in style to Bordeaux than the juicy bottlings of California, it’s dry and restrained but loaded with spice-kissed flavors of fresh black currant and blackberry.
Like in Rioja, Navarra’s vineyards are dominated by Tempranillo and Garnacha, but sturdy, heat-loving Cabernet also thrives there. It’s more and more popular everyday, in fact, and while once used to ‘beef up’ other reds, it’s increasingly crafted into its own delicious bottlings.
The producer behind this one was way ahead of the curve, and has been cranking out acclaimed Cab Sauvignon for years. The previous vintage took home 95 points and a gold medal from the New York International Wine Competition as well as a gold medal and 93 points from Sunset International Wine Competition.
We know you’ll love this year’s rendition just as much. Dark-fruited with subtle spice notes and structured tannins, it’s excellent all on its own and with food. Try it alongside steak, burgers, winter stews or a hearty roast.
