Wine Flavor Profile
Vinha do Fava is a medium- to full-bodied red wine with ripe black cherry, black currant, violet and lavender aromas. Luscious and rich, the palate delivers spicy, black-fruit flavors. Soft tannins frame the juicy, fresh finish.

Beyond the Label

Vinha do Fava is a brilliant taste of Portugal’s flagship grape, Touriga Nacional. It’s from fourth-generation Leonor Freitas (who was named ‘Comendadora,’ the equivalent of knighthood) by the Portuguese government for her services to the wine industry. As you can imagine, she knows her stuff.

The wine hails from the premium Vinha do Fava vineyard, situated in the warm, sandy soils of Fernando Pó, a tiny district in the Peninsula de Setúbal. Though it basks in intense sunshine all day, it’s also only four miles from the Atlantic Ocean—all those brisk sea breezes lock in intense aromatics and keep the grapes from over-ripening.

Leonor acquired this special site back in 2000 and immediately recognized its potential for growing fine Touriga Nacional. Today it’s winemaker Jaime Quendera’s go-to spot when he’s planning to make a higher-end creation for Leonor—more than 60 of the estate’s 800 medals were awarded to wines made from this vineyard. With that kind of winning streak, we’re confident this wine will follow suit.

Look forward to spicy, black-fruit flavors on the rich, luscious palate. Soft tannins frame the juicy, fresh finish and make this a winning match for a feast of game meats or hearty beef dishes.

Crafted in limited batches—hurry for yours!
