Flavor Profile
Though better known as the land of longhorn cattle and Friday night lights, Texas has a world-class wine scene and deserves to be recognized for it.
Texas was one of the first states to plant Vitis vinifera, the grape species used for fine winemaking (like Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay). In fact, Spanish missionaries started growing vines in the 1660s—more than 100 years before anyone in California cultivated wine grapes. After stalling out under Prohibition, the industry finally picked back up in the late 20th century, and today, Texas is America’s fifth-largest wine producer.
Renowned winemaker Bob Landon has been at the forefront of Texas’ wine revolution. His winemaking journey has humble origins—he started out making wine in his basement before founding Landon Winery in 2005. But Bob’s pioneering spirit paid off. Over the last 20 years, Landon Winery has grown from a one-man operation to one of Texas’ most prominent producers, with several locations across north Texas, a whole team of talented winemakers and a first-class staff of wine educators guiding visitors in each tasting room.
Landon Winery “Legacy” Montage Red Blend is a testament to the old saying, “everything’s bigger in Texas.” A classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the wine is full bodied and rich, with bold notes of ripe black fruit plus vanilla and baking spice nuances from oak aging. It’ll be an incredible match for Texas barbecue, game meats, aged cheeses and more flavorful dishes.
