Beyond the Label

Casa Santos Lima—named 2021’s Best Portuguese Producer by international wine competition Mundus Vini—has a reputation for crafting wines that punch well above their price point. Its flagship Stones & Bones red blend is one of its most popular, with legions of fans nationwide. Which is why we’re thrilled to bring you this limited-edition, long-aged Stones & Bones Reserva.

Owned and operated by the Santos Lima family, the winery has exploded in size and popularity over the course of its five-generation lifespan. Based in Alenquer, about an hour north of Lisbon, the Santos Limas now manage vines and wines in five distinct regions: Alentejo, Algarve, the Douro, Lisboa and Vinho Verde.

This one, like the original Stones & Bones, hails from Lisboa, where their vineyards are planted across gentle slopes that stretch as high as 720 feet in altitude. At this height, the grapes benefit from bountiful sunshine and a climate slightly tempered by the nearby Atlantic Ocean, as well as soils riddled with Superior Jurassic limestone and actual dinosaur fossils (hence the wine’s name!).

It’s considered one of Portugal’s richest wine producing areas and this wine is certainly your richly fruited proof.

Made from a blend of Touriga Nacional (the star grape of Port), Syrah, Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo) and Alicante Bouschet and aged 12 months in oak, it offers a whole lot of ripe red and black fruit flavors, spicy oak tones and vanilla qualities with very low tannins and low acidity. It is remarkably full bodied—a real roaring treat, if you ask us.

Order yours today and uncork it alongside Cozido à Portuguesa (slow-cooked meats and vegetables) or Feijoada à Transmontana (bean and sausage stew)... or, you know, just some good old fashioned barbecue.
